What is a neurodivergent-affirming therapist?
As a neurodivergent affirming therapist and a therapist who has ADHD, as well as decades of experience supporting individuals on the ASD spectrum, I both understand the difficulties of being neurodivergent in a neurotypical world, as well as the incredible strengths that neurodivergent people possess. I see neurodivergence as a superpower, not a disability. Super-powers require training and support to be wielded effectively, and that's where a neurodivergent therapist can really help.
How do I know if I need trauma therapy?
If you have had negative or painful experiences in childhood or in more recent times, which still impact you today in your thoughts, emotions, behaviours, self-image, or relationships or which limit your potential, then trauma therapy is for you. Trauma can be large life impacting events such as an assault, accident, death of a loved one or an illness, or it can be small repeated events such as being criticized often, gaslit by a partner, cheated on, or never feeling loved as a kid. Whatever you have experienced, if it is causing you sadness, depression, low self-esteem, or anxiety now, trauma therapy can benefit you.
Do you offer virtual counselling in British Columbia?
Yes, I offer virtual therapy in BC as well as most other provinces and territories in Canada.
What happens during a 30-minute consultation?
During your 30-minute free consultation, we will have a personable and relaxed conversation where you tell me the reasons you are seeking therapy and ask me questions. This is an opportunity for us to see if we are a good fit to work together. Choosing a therapist you are comfortable with is the most important part of choosing a therapist, so it is critical you meet your potential therapist.
Do you accept extended health benefits?
I provide receipts for you to submit to your extended health insurer, so please check with your provider to see if they will reimburse you for the sessions. However, many clients find that the yearly benefit restrictions negatively impact their therapeutic goals and prefer the flexibility and control that private pay options provide. It is like the difference between renting a car and the rental company choosing your car vs. you buying the specific car that meets your unique needs and goals. You and your mental health are worth investing in.
How much do sessions cost?
50-minute sessions cost $140.00, and 90-minute sessions cost $250. However, I do offer a limited number of low-cost and sliding scale sessions. I do not want finances to be a barrier to care. If you need a session fee adjustment, talk to me about it during your free consultation.
What kinds of therapy do you offer?
I offer personalized therapy that integrates many modalities, such as Emotion Focused (EFT/ EFIT), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Solution Focused (SFT), Person-Centered, Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and elements of Internal Family Systems (IFS). I collaborate with you on your therapy goals and use aspects of many therapies to customize your care. You are unique, so your care should be personalized for you.
Are my sessions confidential?
Your sessions are confidential. No one will even know you are a therapy client, unless you tell them. Before our consultation session, you will be given a consent and confidentiality form to sign, which explains my legal and ethical requirements to maintain your confidentiality, as well as any exceptions.
