Why I Practice: My Journey to Becoming a Therapist
I often tell my clients that I don’t just understand the process of healing from books—I understand it because I have lived it.
For a long time, I believed that I could simply outrun my past. Like many who grow up with difficult childhood experiences, I counted down the days until high school graduation, thinking that leaving home meant leaving the pain behind. But as I moved into adulthood, I realized those experiences hadn't disappeared; they were like a backpack full of rocks that followed me everywhere I went. Eventually, I learned that what I was carrying was Complex PTSD (CPTSD) and undiagnosed ADHD.
Finding a Safe Space to Heal
The turning point in my life came when I finally reached out for support. I found an incredible therapist who provided me with something I had never truly experienced: a secure attachment and a safe, healing relationship.
Through that work, I learned how to slowly set the rocks down. My therapist didn’t just help me manage symptoms; they changed the trajectory of my life. That experience is exactly why I became a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying). I wanted to offer others the same gift of a safe harbor that was given to me.
Hope for Your Unique Journey
I know that healing, change, and growth are possible because I am living proof of it. If I could find a path to peace, I truly believe anyone can.
As a therapist serving clients across British Columbia, my goal is to walk a mile in your shoes—offering deep empathy and compassion as we navigate your unique journey together. Whether you are dealing with trauma, anxiety, or the weight of your own "backpack," I look forward to walking with you as you begin to take the rocks out, one by one.
